“Unity” Community Mural 2014

The Unity Mural was painted over the course of 3 days with community participation. It is a total size fo 2.5 x 6 metres and was commissioned by MKIAC, a community organization that promotes arts, culture and diversity in the UK.

“The background of the Unity mural is like a vast sky, symbolizing the infinite. The overlaid islamic geometry transform into different colors and motifs of different faiths and cultures. One of the motifs is from a stained glass window of a church in France. Another motif is from the Alhambra in Spain.
The pattern also transforms into birds that fly up into the colorful sky, symbolizing diversity, spirituality and inspiration.
The painting is like a mosaic of different patterns and colors. Yet, they all fit together as part of a larger pattern. At the center is the Arabic word for Unity, “Wihda”
The Unity mural was painted June 2014 in Milton Keynes, UK, with the help of many community members
